Description: β-sitosterol is a naturally occurring plant sterol (phytosterol) present in many fruits and vegetables. Scientific research has proven that β-sitosterol is helpful in maintaining the proper functioning of our body. Polyamines, including putrescine, spermidine, and spermine (SPM), are polycations with anti-oxidative, anti-aging, and cell autophagy induction properties. The biologically active amines, spermine(SPM), and agmatine, have specific functions on mitochondria which distinguish them from other amines. SPM increases autophagy by directly binding to p53 and p21 promoters. Furthermore, SPM ameliorates ischemia/reperfusion injury in cardiomyocytes via regulation of autophagy. Polyamines also function as anti-inflammatory factors through inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokine synthesis.
