Description: L-Theanine (γ-glutamylethylamide), an amino acid naturally found abundant in tea leaves, has positive effects especially on relaxing, cognitive performance, emotional status, sleep quality, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and common cold. Asiatic acid (AsA) is a pentacyclic triterpenoid derived from the tropical medicinal plant Centella asiatica (family-Apiaceae). Beneficial effects of AsA have been reported in wound healing, UV-induced photoaging, glutamate- or β-amyloid-induced neurotoxicity and hepatofibrosis. Furthermore, there are numerous reports suggesting the strong neuroprotective and anti-cancer efficacy of AsA. For example, AsA treatment has been reported to induce apoptotic death in human hepatoma and malignant glioma cells through enhancing the intracellular calcium release.
