Phytochemicals
Phytochemicals are bioactive compounds found in plant foods, eg, fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and seeds. They often are categorized into groups on the basis of their chemical structure (ie, polyphenols, organosulfur compounds, carotenoids, alkaloids, and nitrogen-containing compounds). Application of phytochemicals in the prevention and treatment of health disorders, such as diabetes, gastritis, enteritis, topical inflammation, macular degeneration, gingivitis, prostatic hyperplasia, urinary impairments.
